Habitat. Mountain gorges are a typical habitat. Bastard refers to the plants that first appear on weakly fixed sand banks, slightly rising above the water, as well as on landslides, mudflow cones, along slopes of roads, etc. Under natural conditions, bastard hemp does not form significant vegetation, it is found absently, in small groups. Wild bastard thickets do not provide a source of raw materials; therefore, the raw materials are obtained only from cultivated plants. This is a very labor-intensive culture with specific features of cultivation. Bastard hemp seeds are very small, do not withstand seeding in the soil.Bastard can grow in the conditions of the Moscow region, as well as in the North Caucasus and Ukraine.
The chemical composition of bastard hemp herb
In the aerial part of bastard hemp there are contained flavonoids (about 10%):
- datiscin (the main component of the Caucasian population),
- datiscanin and others.
- alkaloids (0.31%),
- tannins (up to 2.9%).
Harvesting and storage of raw materials
Harvesting. Bastard is harvested from the age of three, in the budding phase - the beginning of flowering. When working with bastard raw materials and, especially, with its seeds, it is necessary to observe precautions, preventing seeds from entering the body through the respiratory organs.
