The leaves are long, trifoliate, the leaves are ovate with a solid edge, the base of the leaflet is sometimes unequal, the tip is acuminate.

The chemical composition of hericot valves
In the hericot valves there are found:
- flavonoids - derivatives of quercetin and kaempferol: rutin, robinia, kaempferol-3-glucuronoside, quercetin-3-glucuronide, isoquercitrin;
- phenolic acids;
- beta-sitosterol and its glucoside;
- triterpene glycosides - phaseolosides;
- amino acids.
Harvesting and storage of raw materials
Harvesting. Harvesting of the raw materials is carried out in August - September when the fruit is ripe, the above-ground part is cut, the beans are separated and the sash is released from the seeds. The seeds are used as food.
Drying. Hericot valves are dried in natural conditions or in dryers at a temperature of 50-60 ºС. After drying, the raw materials are sorted, blackened doors are removed, as well as impurities.
Storage. The raw materials are stored in a dry and well-ventilated area on the shelves.
External signs of raw materials
The raw materials are elongated, often spiral-wound fruit leaves, partially broken, grooved or straight.
Outside, the surface of the valves is smooth, sometimes slightly wrinkled, dull, from light yellow to yellow, occasionally visible spots or stripes of brown or purple.
The inner surface is shiny, white or yellowish white.
Properties and application
The pharmacological properties of hericot valves
Hericot valves possess
- diuretic and
- hypoglycemic effect, the latter property is due to the amino acid arginine.
Hericot valve have also:
- moderate hypotensive effect,
- possess anti-inflammatory and
- hypoazotemic activity.
Application of hericot valves:
- as a hypoglycemic agent for the prevention and treatment of mild to moderate diabetes.
A decoction of hericot valves is used when
- kidney disease
- the initial stages of hypertension and
- salt metabolism disorders.
- Individual intolerance,
- acute pancreatitis.
