About
Chamomile – one of the most known medicinal plants in the temperate climate zone. Common on a par with the plantain, chamomile preparations have long been used for medical and prophylactic purposes. The medicinal properties of chamomile pharmaceutical have been known for a long time: chamomile flowers, teas made from them, chamomile decoctions, tinctures, extracts have a mild anti-inflammatory, disinfecting, and analgesic effect.
Chemical composition
The chamomile inflorescences contain a significant amount of flavonoids, derivatives of apigenin, luteolin and quercetin, coumarins, carotenoids, bitterness, mucus, and gum. They also contain 0.2-0.8% of the essential oil, the main component of which is chamazulen (about 7%), its predecessor – prochamazulene and other monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes (cadinene, farnesene, etc.).

- Flavonoid chamomile glycosides have a weak atropinopodobnoe action relaxes smooth muscles, eliminating abdominal cramps.
- Moderate antimicrobial action
- Reduces fermentation processes in the intestines
- Increases the secretion of digestive glands.
- Has a soothing and analgesic properties
Chamomile preparations
- accelerate the regeneration of the epithelium in ulcers,
- delay the development of inflammation
- Inside the infusion of chamomile is used hot as a diaphoretic.
In perfumery, chamomile flowers are used in the manufacture of nourishing creams, lotions and shampoos.
Indications
For oral administration: spastic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, flatulence, gastritis, peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcers, colitis, enterocolitis, diseases of the liver and biliary tract, painful menstruation, uterine bleeding, neuroses. For local administration: inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, tonsillitis); infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urogenital system; inflammation of the skin, wounds, ulcers.”
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to chamomile, as well as to plants of the aster family (Compositae), such as arnica, ragweed, yarrow, tansy, wormwood, asters, chrysanthemums.
